Both of the Williams sisters are out for the rest of the year.
Serena has re-torn the tendon that she cut on glass shortly after winning Wimbledon. She had surgery on Monday, after having it repaired on July 15, the first time she had it.
Venus has told the WTA that she would be out because of a left knee injury.
Both sisters will miss the year end championships in Doha, Quatar, and will also miss the Fed Cup final between the US and Italy.
